At the core of the concepts behind Out-Thinking Parkinson's is the understanding that the pathways to movement in the brain are manyfold and hence that, with the aid of the right diet and supplements together with the optimal environment and external stimuli, the "redundant" pathways can be unlocked. Thus by learning how to use different parts of the brain than before we can "relearn" movement, out-maneuvering the very small part of the brain which is "on the fritz" in people with Parkinson's Disease. This ability of the brain to re-wire it's own architecture is known as neuro-plasticity.
To help People affected by Parkinson's, both those diagnosed and those who care for and help others, understand the potentials of this way of thinking, I have decided to jump ahead in my uploading of these Video Diary entries and to bring you right up to date.
My Co-Founder Deb Helfrich and I are very open minded about what may or may not work. We discuss possibilities and try them out under her supervision and astute observation. Sometimes we try things on the fly. This was one such case. When I did this the first time, Deb said there was a noticeable change in my face when I entered the mind set which allows me to move in this way - and that I should record what I was doing to see for myself! So I did and looking at the video, I do also feel that the animation of my face and in my eyes is palpable when I unlock the ability to move. This is something we have seen time and again in these techniques we are developing.
So watch and enjoy, but also note this video, I feel, also demonstrates clearly that I am not "play-acting" at this Out-Thinking Parkinson's, nor that these visualization techniques, which bring in to play brain centers responsible for imagination, are easy. You will see that the first time I attempt to enter the "Errol Flynn" mode, I freeze and have to try another action first. This freezing or "locking-up" is something that many people with Parkinson's will identify as very real.
One last point which is very crucial in why I am myself awed at this result, is the fluidity and control of the motion, once unlocked, at very slow speeds. I will cover why this is such an important result in a sequel.
